Da die Idee für ein Werk etwas körperloses ist, kann Material nur Ballast sein. Lennart Rieder zeigt in seiner neuen Arbeit ein traumartiges Szenario, in dem der Inhalt eines kleinformatigen Bildes das SOX flutet.
Der Ballast ist hier ein Überschuss an Farbe, man könnte ewig damit malen. Nur eine Glasscheibe rettet uns vor der ausufernden, sintflutartigen, raumfüllenden, inhaltlich überquellende Malerei, die nur durch ein kleines Bild an der Rückwand ihren tradi-tionellen Platz zu bewahren versucht. Die Idee ist überflüssig geworden.

As the idea for a work is something immaterial, the material just adds weight. In his new work, Lennart Rieder shows a dreamlike setting in which the content of a small picture floods SOX. The ballast in this case is a surplus of color that one could keep on painting with forever. It is only the glass panel that saves us from the torrential, sprawling, overflowing painting that only pretends to keep its traditional place as a small format in the background. The idea becomes surplus.
