Seit den 1990er Jahren entwickelt Veit Stratmann seine Arbeiten, die immer wieder um die Identität von Räumen kreisen und um diejenigen, die sich in ihnen aufhalten. Die Gesten von Veit Stratmann sind vornehmlich direkt auf einen bestimmten Ort bezogen. Ihre Funktionalität ist meist zweideutig und in ihrer Form bewegen sie sich eher auf rätselhaftem als auf ästhetischem Terrain. Oft sind es minimale Interventionen, mit denen Stratmann den Status von Räumen in Frage stellt. Dabei wird die künstlerische Geste immer wieder auf ihre Möglichkeiten hin untersucht, die räumliche Kohärenz eines Ortes aufzulösen und eine Leerstelle zu erzeugen. So nimmt Veit Stratmann auch in seiner Ausstellung im Sox die raumeigene Problematik und Dynamik des Schaufensters auf. Mit einem Eingriff an der Außenfassade des Schaufensters unterläuft er die gewohnte Blickrichtung von der Straße aus in das Vitrineninnere und schafft eine Schnittstelle, an der sich die eigentliche Funktion des Fensters zugleich offenbart und verweigert.

Since the 1990s Veit Stratmann has been developing works that consistently revolve around the identity of spaces and those who sojourn in them. His works interfere directly with and relate to a specific space or location. Their functionality is often ambiguous. Formally they operate in an enigmatic rather than an aesthetic field. Through simple and minimal interventions Stratmann queries into the significance of locations. The artistic gesture is consistently examined for its ability to dissolve the spatial coherence of a place and to create a void. In his exhibition at Sox, Veit Stratmann incorporates the specific conditions and dynamics of the display window. By intervening on the exterior façade he subverts the habitual viewing direction from the street to the inside of the window display and brings on an interface that at the same time reveals and denies the proper function of the window. The spectator’s gaze gets lost in some kind of no-man’s-land.
